From workwear to cultural icon
Wrangler's roots go back to the 1930s, when the Blue Bell Overall Company, the brand's parent company, developed a denim fabric that minimized shrinkage after washing. But it was the vision of designer Bernard "Rodeo Ben" Lichtenstein, who recognized the potential of denim, that led to the founding of Wrangler in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1947 - with the clear aim of doing justice to the rough everyday life of cowboys. The jeans were to offer riders maximum freedom of movement in the saddle, protect them from wind and weather and at the same time guarantee unparalleled durability. As a result, the first pair of jeans was created with the name "11MWZ", where "MW" stood for Men's Wear, "Z" indicated the use of a durable zipper instead of the traditional buttons and the "11" referred to the fabric weight in ounces. This prototype impressed the discerning drovers (Wranglers) so much that they became the first brand ambassadors. Wrangler finally celebrated its global breakthrough in 1962, when the brand successfully conquered the European market. Since then, a Wrangler product has been a must-have for lovers of authentic fashion and an indispensable part of the wardrobe of style-conscious men.
